The hill where maguey is spun
Its ancient name, B'atz'ib'al Juyu', means 'the hill of spinning', and refers to the craft that made the town famous: spinning and weaving maguey fiber. With it, families make ropes, nets, hammocks and bags, a tradition that only a few families keep up today. It's a small, quiet Tz'utujil town with little tourism.

San Pablo Apóstol: January 25 (patron saint's fiesta in honor of Saint Paul the Apostle). The maguey craft defines the town: the leaves are scraped to extract the fiber, which is spun and woven by hand into cords, nets, hammocks and bags, knowledge passed from mothers to daughters. A mural at the entrance to the town shows the 20 nahuales (day signs of the Maya calendar). The people keep their customs; the main fiesta is on January 25.
